Our Work

Hawaiʻi Impact Collaborative provides consulting services to nonprofits & companies with shared goals of sustainability, justice, and equity in Hawaiʻi.

Our Vision

Our work moves us towards a vision where Hawaiʻi has a thriving natural environment and a community that respects nature, is resilient, and is equitable.

Why Our Work Matters

Today, we face a climate crisis that requires bold, immediate and collective action. Hawaii’s location in the tropics and as one of the most isolated places in the world makes it more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

On top of our environmental challenges, we also see income, gender, and other inequalities negatively impacting our community and our ability to solve these problems. We believe in the interconnectedness and intersectionality of sustainability, justice, and equity, and we do our work with that in mind.

Doorae Shin has over a decade of experience organizing and advocating for sustainability and progressive change in Hawaiʻi. As an undergraduate student at UH Manoa, she led a successful campaign to ban polystyrene foam (“Styrofoam”) takeout items from campus, for which she won a Brower Youth Award in 2014.

She served as the University of Hawaiʻi’s first ever Student Sustainability Coordinator in the UH Office of Sustainability, and she then joined the team at Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation to serve as their Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Program Manager. She most recently served as Surfrider Foundation’s Oʻahu Chapter Coordinator. She has served on the boards of Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi and Kōkua Market Natural Foods Cooperative.

She is the Founder & Director of Hawaiʻi Impact Collaborative, which is a consulting firm offering project management and community organizing services to nonprofits and other clients who have shared missions around sustainability, justice, and equity.
